Course Description:
Building upon the foundational knowledge acquired in Module 1, Module 2 of our Forest Therapy Certification series, titled "Pennsylvania Plant Life and Our Natural Setting," invites students to deepen their connection with the natural world through an exploration of the unique flora and fauna of Pennsylvania. Over 16 engaging hours, this module offers a comprehensive journey into the world of native plants, common medicinal plants, basic botany principles, and an introduction to the common wildlife of the region.


Course Objectives:

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and Understand Native Plants: Learn about the various native plants of Pennsylvania, their ecological roles, and their significance in local ecosystems.

  2. Discover Medicinal Plants: Gain knowledge about the common medicinal plants found in Pennsylvania, including their identification, uses, and the basics of herbal medicine.

  3. Grasp Botany Basics: Understand fundamental botanical concepts, which will include plant anatomy, life cycles, and classification, tailored specifically to the species found in Pennsylvania.

  4. Recognize Common Wildlife: Get an introduction to the wildlife that coexists with the plant life in Pennsylvania, learning about their habitats, behaviors, and the role they play in the ecosystem.


Methodology:
This module is designed as a blend of theoretical and practical learning experiences. Students will engage in interactive lectures, hands-on identification exercises, guided walks, and wildlife spotting activities. This approach ensures not only the acquisition of theoretical knowledge but also its practical application in the natural setting of Pennsylvania's diverse landscapes.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations of plant and wildlife identification, participation in discussions and activities, and a final written examination covering the key concepts of the module.

Who Should Attend:
This module is ideal for individuals who have completed Module 1 of our Forest Therapy Certification or those with a basic understanding of Forest Bathing. It is particularly beneficial for nature enthusiasts, educators, environmentalists, and anyone looking to deepen their knowledge of the natural world, specifically in the context of Pennsylvania.

Pre-requisites:
While completion of Module 1 ("The Basics of Forest Bathing") is recommended, it is not mandatory. Participants should, however, possess a keen interest in nature and a willingness to explore the outdoors.
